About the Program
Band is a performance-based elective offered to all students at WBMS. This activity involves enrollment into our instrumental music class, an exploratory class that meets during the school day, as well as occasional in-school and out-of-school activities throughout the year. In the band program at WBMS, students learn how to play an instrument both individually and as a group. Class time is utilized for individual musical development, full band rehearsals, and the exploration of chamber literature. Participation in the band program does not disqualify or impede participation in other school activities related to academics, sports, or clubs.
The Yellow Jacket Band is a member of the Middle Tennessee State Band and Orchestra Association, and our student members can participate in events hosted by this organization such as the Mid-State Honor Bands, Concert Festival, and Solo & Ensemble Festival. In addition to this, Rutherford County Schools will host events such as Percussion Festival, All-County Honor Band, Jazz Festival, and All-Star Band.
At WBMS band members will have the opportunity to participate in our extracurricular ensembles such as pep band and jazz band. Among these special opportunities, the band traditionally takes an out-of-state trip to an amusement park every year.
